Installation

How to install Document Centre?

Installation instructions come with your Product Key, that you will receive shortly after downloading the program.

"use an Updateable Cursor"

If you get this sentence in an exeption, you are probably using a Microsoft Jet database (an mdb file) and have no Write Access to the file.

Correct the problem by adjusting access on the Security tab of the file Properties.

Is there no manual???

Yes there is. It is called "Document Centre.pdf", is located inside the Document Centre folder, and can be viewed if you download Adobe Reader from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Is there any possibility of debugging the startup of Document Centre?

Yes, you may receive exceptions from Outlook in a certain way. Document Centre displays exceptions, but Outlook does not normally display exceptions, as "they tend to confuse the normal user", with it's detailed description of what has gone wrong.

Start DocCentre Admin, and select the menu item "Test installation" from the File menu. This will bring up Outlook with the environment variable "VSTO_SUPPRESSDISPLAYALERTS" set to 0. This will let Outlook display exceptions.

If you cannot start DocCentre Admin, this usually means that the security access isn't in place. Run the script "Access.bat" from within the Document Centre folder. On Vista it is important that it is run with Administrator access.

You may also get two messages from the Document Centre Startup function if you start Outlook with Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock on. Failure to get these messages indicates that the startup function isn't run, usually because Access.bat wasn't run correctly.

Crash at the office

The whole affair had me thinking I was crazy, until I opened the volumes in another operating system (Windows XP) and inspected the crash. This, by the way, on the same time as Japan experienced its inferno (I wonder if there's a connection?).

And it happened on both machines at the same time.
